What is Glean SB?
Glean SB is an organization created by SBHS students working with the Backyard Bounty program run by the Santa Barbara County Foodbank. We raise awareness of food waste and combat hunger by harvesting local produce and distributing it to those in need in our community and beyond.
What Is Backyard Bounty?
Backyard Bounty is a program of the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County that connects farmers and backyard growers with volunteers to glean fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste. We work throughout Santa Barbara County with home owners, farmers, and neighborhoods to harvest great produce and distribute it to our 300+ partner agencies.
What is the SB Foodbank?
The Santa Barbara Foodbank objective is to end hunger and transform the health of the Santa Barbara county through good nutrition. The food bank educates and empowers the community regarding issues with hunger, nutrition, and obesity tackling all three of these problems at once - through a nationally recognized continum of programs.
Where does the food go?
The food goes to the Santa Barbara Foodbank, which is then distributed to the working poor of Santa Barbara who work but still do not make enough to fulfill their necessities.
